Description
In this letter, Dymally replies to the concerns of a constituent, who is a medical doctor, about welfare recipients who discriminate in their choice of doctors. Dymally asserts that many black people, after lifetimes of constant rejection by racists, fear white doctors as a result. Black American’s mistrust of the medical system is built on a long history of harm, discrimination, racist and unfounded views of the Black body, and unethical experimentation, the most infamous of which may be the Tuskegee Syphilis Study (1932-1972).
