Letter from Chet Schwarzkopf, 1969

Title

Letter from Chet Schwarzkopf, 1969

Subject

Hate Speech
Dymally, Mervyn M., 1926-2012

Description

In a letter written to Mervyn Dymally, former WWI and WII veteran Chet Schwarzkopf used racist language to refer to Blacks as "beast," and "idiot whites," who were "rioting." Schwarzkopf included a lengthy passage from a Rudyard Kipling [MacDonough poem] underlining the last line. The writer blames "Marx-line liberals," and Washington for failure to curtail protest in urban spaces and uses racial language to describe Blacks, and suggests that state violence is the answer to protest and the protection of property.
