Young's Oral History, part 2 Description An account of the resource Winston Bong Young opens his second interview by elaborating upon the culture shock of moving from Central City, Los Angeles to North Hollywood in seventh grade. He recalls how his work ethic developed from balancing childcare for his younger stepsiblings and working at his stepfather’s restaurant during junior high and high school. Young also mentions the surprising origin of his great-grandfather's poultry shop in San Francisco, and how his parents moved to Los Angeles due to their families’ disapproval of their marriage. Young describes his experience with assimilation and Asian American identity, his academic and social progress at LA Valley College and Cal State LA, and meeting his wife in the final semester of his undergraduate studies.
