At the launch of this exhibit project, Jewelyn Mims a second year graduate student at California State University, Los Angeles was working towards a Masters of History degree. She graduated from the University of California, Riverside, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, specializing in ancient Greece and Rome. Her academic and career interests include history, museum and public education programs, teaching, literature, art, and film. As a native of California and lifelong resident of Los Angeles County, Jewelyn is especially attracted to studying and investigating the social, cultural, and environmental history of her community. As a historian, Jewelyn’s scholarly research seeks to focus on the interconnectedness of human experiences and their importance to history and society. Prior to her work on The Ground Beneath Our Feet: A Hundred Years of Earthquakes in Los Angeles, Jewelyn was a co-curator of a 2019 photography exhibition in collaboration with the Los Angeles Times and the JFK Library at Cal State Los Angeles entitled, The LA River: The Past, the Present, and the Future.
Jewelyn is also responsible for making the digital exhibit, The Ground Beneath Our Feet: A Hundred Years of Earthquakes in Los Angeles, orignially launched on WordPress, accessible to Cal State LA's JFK Library database through Omeka.
During the exhibit project, Nicole A. Aros a second-year graduate student at California State University, Los Angeles was working toward completing a M.A. degree in History. Her research interests are Environmental , Russian, Gender, and Cultural History. Nicole’s favorite historical books are The Conquest of a Continent by W. Bruce Lincoln, The World That Trade Created by Kenneth Pomeranz, Muslim Women of the Fergana Valley: A 19th-Century Ethnography from Central Asia by Vladimir and Maria Nalivkin, and Visions of Empire: How Five Imperial Regimes Shaped the World by Kumar Krishan.
Dr. Eileen Ford is a Professor of History at California State University, Los Angeles. She was trained as a specialist in modern Mexico with research interests in the history of childhood and youth, cultural history, gender history, and visual culture. She teaches in the fields of the history of Modern Latin America, Mexico, and California. Her book Childhood and Modernity in Cold War Mexico City was published by Bloomsbury Academic Press in 2018. Ford has also published in The Journal of Women’s History and The Journal of the History of Childhood and Youth. Her chapter “Insurgent Citizenships: Armed Rebellion and Everyday Resistance in the Global South” appeared in the edited volume, World Histories from Below: Disruption and Dissent from 1750 to the Present(2016). Recently, she has taken a keen interest in the history of Southern California and is currently working on a book manuscript that examines William Wrigley, Jr.’s business endeavors on Santa Catalina Island.
Dr. Choi Chatterjee is a Professor of History at
California State University, Los Angeles.
Her fields of specialization include the history
of Modern Europe, Russia, and the Soviet Union.
